Wednesday Nowak, our resident savior of the planet, turned me on to plant guilds and “lasagna gardening.” A lasagna garden is simply making a garden bed out of layers of materials without having to dig or weed an area. A guild is an arrangement of plants that provide a symbiotic relationship to each other.  The goal here is to plant things that work well with citrus trees.  . The downside for me is that a typical citrus guild consists of plants that I would not normally plant this time of year.  So I am going to go with things I usually do now——carrots, beets, spinach, lettuces etc. and trying to add some nasturtiums for color.
